“I’m on a Mission,” El Paso to San Diego, and Beyond

Between El Paso, TX and San Diego, CA, I learned a lot more about the border crisis than I would have simply consuming news in Denver, CO or New York, NY. Seeing first-hand who is helping migrant, legal refugees, and what they need can change how you believe in others. Seeing is believing; so what if there were an organization helping you report what you see and teaching you how to get hands-on in helping others? That’s my goal.

San Diego, CA — What’s next?

In an atmosphere of hate we must a lovely create not just the opposite, but a brand new world. For this 16-year-old migrant refugee to the US from Guatemala, that means knowing that people are on her side, and see her humanity, and, are willing to give to the cause of her legal aide in becoming a US veterinarian.

FAP: the Free Association Press

In order to build the support for FAP, I’m starting small. Recently, in Yuma, AZ, I volunteered with a shelter for migrant refugees released from Border Patrol. While there, I met a young woman who dreams of being a veterinarian. It would break my heart to know or see her studying and one day torn from her dreams.

Why I left Yuma, AZ

TL;DR: Background check your volunteers. Find people solely to be speaking with refugees, as a friend, on the regular. Combat the dangerous and hateful rhetoric being perpetrated by the Right-wing and the President. “Doing the most good,” doesnt look like enough.

Yuma, AZ — Live Fast, Help People.

Not sure if you’re doing the right thing? Well, find someone that’s “doing the right thing” and tell them what you’re doing. Their response may surprise you. This is my story about that from Yuma.
